Wheat...West coast wheat markets reflected the modest recovery across
the futures complex over the past week, with early week bids hovering 5 to
15 cents higher. Basis levels have held firm in very limited trading.
Crop Progress...While the three-state weighted crop index showed winter
wheat conditions were unchanged from last week at 99% of normal, there were
notable shifts for the individual states. Idaho saw the good to excellent
rating slip 7 points to 65%, while Washington was up 3% to 66% and Oregon
posted an 8 point gain to 66%. Spring wheat planting progress shows Idaho
ahead of average at 86% complete and Washington right on track with average
at 87% planted.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed U.S. wheat loadings came in
at about half the prior week's total with 11.3 million bushels. Year-to-date
shipments of 726 million bushels stands 14% ahead of a year ago. Both hard
red spring and winter wheat moved over 3 million bushels with white wheat at
2.6 million. West coast exporters loaded 5.5 million bushels of wheat, going
mostly to the Philippines, along with 24 million bushels of corn which went
primarily to Japan.
